Beyond Speculation is a live Solana charity streamathon spotlighting builders, real adoption, and the shift from crypto hype to real-world impact.
Crypto has spent the last few years trapped in a loud loop: price charts, hype cycles, and short-term wins.
But underneath the noise, something quieter has been happening, gaining momentum. The tech has been shipping. The products have been working. The culture has been growing up.
On March 31, live from Solana SKYLINE’s NYC offices, we’re going beyond speculation.
Beyond Speculation is an 8+ hour live charity streamathon hosted by Netrunner Tax + Solflare. We’re spotlighting the builders, creators, and real-world progress across Solana, while raising meaningful funds for Stand With Crypto and KidsCan.
The centerpiece is as real as it gets: Professor Mint, Netrunner’s CTO, will be running an ultramarathon in New Zealand: LIVE. Mic’d up, multiple camera angles, a drone, and real-time progress tracking on screen for the entire stream.
And the stakes are real. Every subscription to Netrunner Tax and every donation increases the distance Mint has to run. You’re not just supporting the charities. You’re powering the challenge in real time.
Starting at 11 AM Eastern, we’ll broadcast live from Solana SKYLINE with 10+ scheduled ecosystem guests and surprise drop-ins, all focused on what Solana looks like beyond the charts. We’ll be joined by representatives from the Solana Policy Institute and Stand With Crypto, alongside teams including Altitude, Collector Crypt, Solana Mobile, and more.
Products. People. Culture.
We’re also giving away over $5,000 in prizes to stream viewers and donors, including Solana Mobile Seekers, Pokémon trading cards, and more.
But before we get to the logistics… we wanted to share the why.
The article below was written by Maurice Chalfin, Solflare’s Content Lead and one of the minds behind this event. It’s a reflection on where we’ve been, what’s changed, and why an event like this matters right now for crypto and Solana at large.
The narrative has already changed. You just haven’t noticed yet.
That phrase has been sitting with me for a while now.
We all came to crypto for different reasons. Some of us were curious. Some of us were broke. Some of us came for the tech and stayed for the vibes. Others were seeking financial freedom and a set of ideals that fit our perspectives.
Some of us just wanted to feel like we had a shot at something.
I’m not going to pretend my entry was noble… I needed to fix my life, and crypto gave me the tools to do it.
But here’s the thing. Once you fix your own situation, you start looking around. You start asking what all of this is actually for. Not the tech. Not the tokens. The people. The culture. The thing we built together when nobody was watching.
And if you’ve been paying attention lately, something has shifted.
Quietly at first. Now, undeniably.
The age of speculation is ending. The age of adoption (+pragmatism) is here.
For years, the outside world looked at crypto and saw one thing: gambling with extra steps. Or a cesspool of scams. And honestly? We gave them plenty of reasons to think that. Bitconnect (for the OGs), FTX, memecoins, ICOs, rugs, leverage degen plays at 3 AM. We know the culture because we lived it.
But while the world was focused on the noise, something real was being built underneath.

Stablecoins might be the single greatest product crypto has ever created. Full stop. And the irony isn’t lost on me. An entire movement born out of rejecting fiat currency… and its killer app turned out to be a better version of the dollar.
The “old” cypherpunk in me has to laugh at that. But the pragmatist? The pragmatist sees a product that’s moving real value for real people across borders, instantly, with no middlemen skimming off the top. Stables are working in my life too. That’s not speculation. That’s utility. That’s the future showing up early.
Traditional-Main-Street-Finance isn’t just warming up to crypto anymore. It’s building on our rails. Stablecoin-linked debit cards will be available in over 100 countries by the end of the year, letting people spend USDC at millions of merchants worldwide through fintechs and crypto wallets like Solflare.
Stripe acquired Bridge, and is now launching its own blockchain built just for stablecoin settlement. PayPal’s stablecoin PYUSD grew 600% in circulation last year. Franklin Templeton and VanEck brought tokenized government money funds to the network in 2024 and 2025. BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF hit $100 billion in AUM, the fastest-growing ETF in history.
Solana’s stablecoin transaction volume hit $33 trillion in 2025… nearly double Visa’s entire annual volume. I can keep going… The same platforms and institutions that once gate-kept financial access are now plugging into the system we built. Not as a favor, but because it’s better. When the fintechs stop competing with crypto and start building on top of it, the narrative has already changed. You just might not have noticed yet.

And that old line we all used to repeat… “banking the unbanked.” It was always a beautiful idea. Maybe a little idealistic. But what’s actually happening now is even more interesting. We’re not just banking the unbanked. We’re also brokering the unbrokered. We’re giving people access to financial tools, yield, and opportunity that used to be locked behind wealth minimums and country codes. The gates aren’t just opening. They’re dissolving.
And here’s what makes all of this fundamentally different from the system it’s replacing. When you deposit money in a bank, it’s not really yours anymore. Not functionally. They decide when you can move it. They decide how much you can send. They can freeze it, flag it, or hold it for “review” on their timeline, not yours. Try wiring money on a Sunday. Try moving your own savings across a border without someone asking permission on your behalf.
Crypto flips that. At least self-custody does completely. Your keys, your coins, your call. You decide when to move it, where to send it, and what to do with it. No office hours. No approval process. No one in between you and your own financial life. That’s not a talking point. That’s a lived experience for millions of people right now. And once you’ve felt that kind of control over your own money, you don’t go back.
This is the part where crypto stops being “just a subculture” and starts being infrastructure.
So where does that leave us? The community. The culture.
Solana has something special and I think most of us feel it even if we can’t always name it. It’s not just speed or fees or TPS. It’s the fact that the people here actually show up for each other, and our bonds were catalyzed in chaos and at times trauma. Global conferences, NFT communities, hacker houses, group chats, endless late night Twitter Spaces, and importantly real friendships forged through bull and bear alike.

If crypto is finally growing up, then the culture around it has to be preserved in some ways and grow up in others. Not by getting boring. Not by putting on suits and pretending we’re Wall Street. By showing the world that the same energy we brought to building the foundational protocols and shipping products… we bring to taking care of the next generation of adopters, each other, and the communities that made this space what it is today.
And the builders? They’re already proving it.
Look around the Solana ecosystem right now. You’ve got teams building wallets that abstract away every piece of friction between a person and their financial sovereignty. Teams building tax and compliance tools so that participating in this economy doesn’t mean gambling with the IRS. Teams putting mobile hardware in people’s hands, making the on-chain experience feel as natural as checking your notifications. Collectors and curators turning real-world assets, digital art, and culture into sustainable ecosystems, not just speculative flips.
These aren’t hypotheticals. These are products. Shipped. Iterated on. Supported by real teams who stuck around when the market said don’t bother.
That’s the part of the story that doesn’t get enough spotlight. For every headline about a rug or a hack, there are dozens of teams quietly building the infrastructure of a more open financial system. Not for the airdrop. Not for the token pump. Because they believe the thing they’re building matters.
Beyond Speculation isn’t just a phrase. It’s what these teams live every single day.
So what if we gave them the stage?
The headlines about crypto write themselves. Hacks, scams, rugs. We know the story. But we also know it’s not the full story. Not even close. And right now, in this exact moment where the world is starting to take us seriously, we have a window. A real one.
What if we used it?
What if we took the same passion we bring to launches, mints, and new protocols… and pointed it at something that makes people outside of crypto stop and say, “wait, they did that?”
Charity. Community. Culture. Not as a marketing play. Not as a rebrand.
As who we actually are when the charts aren’t moving.
That’s what Beyond Speculation is.
